Interview Dreamland

Dreamland:

Jake E (Joacim Lundberg) - Vocals
Johan Eriksson - Guitar
Eric Rauti - Guitar
Mats Rendlert - Bass
Jesse Lindskog - Drums

English version below

Bonjour !

In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, At The Gates…).

16-) Quelques anecdotes marrantes ? (Pendant un concert ou autre)

He he, oh oui j’en ai.

Metal in the night! Jake E, Dreamland.

English version

Hello !

1-) First, can you introduce yourself and the band ?

Well My name is Jake E and Dreamland was born in late 2003 from the ashes of my old band Infinity ! A band which I started together with a friend of mine back in the late nineties named Fredrik Josefsson.
We released a CD single named "The Call" in 2000 which was followed up by loads of gigs in Sweden an one of them at the Sweden rock Festival.
So far so good but unfortunately there were some differences of opinions in the band and finally it went so far that me and Fredrik had to go separate paths.

I moved to Gothenburg and I changed the whole line-up again except the bass player MatsRendlert which is the only member in the band that has survived all the line-up changes through the years!

With a new line up we decided to start over under the name Dreamland and we started a cooperation together with Hammerfall singer Joacim Cans.
We recorded a demo in 2003/04 and it resulted in a contract with the German company Dockyard1 and in the end of 2005 our debut album "Future's Calling" were released.

In the middle of everything I got a call from Fredrik Nordstöm in Dream Evil and was asked to be their new singer. So for a couple of month I was in two bands.

2-) I have seen that you come from Gothenburg, where many melodic death metal bands come from (In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, At the Gates…). Easy to play power metal there?

Ha Ha I think that you have missed that we got a lot of heavy metal bands in Gothenburg as well
Hammerfall, Dragonland, Evergrey, Heed, Lost Horizon, Dream Evil. Etc etc.
Every one knows anyone and no one cares what style your band is playing as long you like to drink beer and listen to heavy metal!

3-) How was the 2006’s year? (The gigs with Nocturnal Rites and 220 Volt…)

2006 was a great year for us, we finally got out on the roads and the tour with Nocturnal Rites was awesome! We did shows in Ice hockey arenas which was a cool feeling!

Then we did a lot of gigs our self most of them in Sweden and then we played on venues with a capacity of 300-400 people but that is also something we love because the closer you as a band can be to the audience the better you perform!

4-) How was the feedback for Eye For An Eye? Better than for Future’s Calling?

Hard to say when the album only been out for a month but we feel that there's a bigger interest from the media on this album for sure!

5-) What about the relationship with Joacim Cans?

Love him can't say anything else, he's the reason why we have released two albums and he's teach ed me a lot of secrets when it comes to singing!
He's a good friends and always been supportive!

6-) When I have heard the songs, I have found many similarities with Hammerfall (specially in the choruses). A result of the partnership with Joacim?

No. Joacim has nothing to do with things like that.
We always record a pre production of the album before we enter the real studio so the songs are finished before Joacim got to hear them,
He's work has always been to find that little extra in my voice and give me tips and tricks.

7-) What about your lyrics, some commitment?

Same thing there. I write the lyrics and no one else, and there's no similarities between our ways of writing lyrics as I know.

8-) Does the harsh vocals on Revolution in Paradise announces something for the future?

I don't know that's nothing we been thinking about it was just an idea I had from day one when me and Eric recorded the first demo version of the song.
He was against it all the way  but when he listened it in the studio with Andy Solvestöms voice (Within Y) he suddenly changed his mind about it!

9-) Some projects for the debuting year? (Tour…)

Yes we hope to go out on tour in May but nothing is decided yet but we really wanna meet our fans in other countries!

10-) Some ideas for the future material?

Well I haven't started that yet I think I will start working on the new album when everything around this release has started to calm down, It's hard to focus on new songs when you have 10 interviews a day and a lot of other promotion work to do!
And I also prefer to write music when the snow is gone and the weather is getting warmer!
On the last album I moved to Italy for a month to finished the song writings!

11-) What are your occupations apart from music?

I am a full time Musician, I give singing lesions and sometimes I play with cover bands or write music to other artists.

12-) What are your favourites bands?

I love bands like Kamelot, old Helloween, Europe, and Joey Tempest solo albums!

13-) Some bands or people you hate?

Hate is a strong word I think that you need to respect other peoples way of music and if you don't like it you don't need to listen to it!
But I am not a big fan Hip Hop or that kind of music more then that I like the girls they always have in their videos! hahaha

14-) A place where you want to play the most?

Oh that would be Ullervi here in Gothenburg, It's the venue where Metallica and Iron Maiden play at when they visit Sweden (capacity of 55,000 people)

15-) Do you know the French metal scene? What do you think of it?

I don't know that much more than I love the last album from Heavenly "Virus"
He's an hell of a singer that guy!

16-) Some funny anecdotes? (During a gig or something other)

Hehe yes I have, We had played somewhere in Sweden and I don't remember the town’s name right now but after the show Mats got kind of drunk and he disappeared from the rest of us but we thought that we'll meet him at the hotel, but when we came there he wasn't here and in the morning he called us and told us that he had broken in to what he thought was our hotel but it wasn't.

The cleaner had waked him up and asked him who the hell he was and that he had to pay for the room!
well this might not be that funny but like six mount later we played in the same town again and believe it or not but Mats repeats the story, but this time he fell asleep in the corridor and the girl that woke him this time is the same cleaner as the last time! And she said : "Just because your didn't broke in the room, it doesn't mean you don't need to pay”! So he had to pay her 100€ this time too!

17-) Something you want to add?

I hope you give our new album a chance you can listen to some of the songs on our Myspace page, where you can download them for free as well!

18-) Some words for the readers of this interview?

I really hope that we'll have the possibility to come to France and play this year and don't hesitate to ask your local promoter to book us!

19-) Thank you for the time spent for this interview, I hope 2007 will be a good year for Dreamland.

Thanks to you and I'll hope we meet on the road! Metal in the night! Jake E Dreamland.
