Dario Grillo vient tout juste d'annoncer son retour au sein du groupe italien Thy Majestie, c'était donc pour moi une obligation  de connaître les raison sde ce retour et, en même temps, en savoir plus sur son nouveau projet...
C'est donc une interview totallement inédite que nous offre Dario...je le remercie encore....

Salut Dario, comment vas-tu?

Dario Grillo: Je vais bien merci. Le seul petit soucis viendrait éventuellement de mes cheveux qui sont constamment dans mon nez. J'ai beau les couper, j'ai l'impression qu'ils poussent plus vite que la normale :)

Ca été un événement assez soudain, je m'y attendais vraiment pas. Claudio (le batteur), m'a surpris pendant que je dormais...il m'a volé toute ma réserve de capotes et si je voulais les retrouver, je devais revenir dans le groupe. Une dure décision, mais j'ai finalement refusé à ma liberté pour la gloire de mon sexe!. C'est une triste vérité... :)  
Blagues à parts... la véritable raison est que c'était le bon moment pour que je revienne dans le groupe. Il y a 3 ans, j'ai quitté le groupe pour deux raisons; premièrement parce que je m’étais lassé de ce style de musique et deuxièmement, à cause de certaines tensions qu'il y avait dans le groupe.
Souvent, quand tu restes trop longtemps avec les mêmes gens peut conduire à une rupture. J'ai donc décidé de faire un break et d'aller voir ailleurs; jouer avec d'autres musiciens, changer de ville, fréquenter différentes personnes, visiter d'autres endroits. J'ai donc déménagé en Sicile, loin de Palerme, j'ai commencé à composer des titres d'un autre style musical ce qui a donné Platens.
Pendant  ces trois années, j'ai travaillé dans un vrai studio où j'ai appris pas mal de choses. J'ai donc aussi bien évolué en tant que personne qu'en tant que musicien. J'ai connu de nouveaux styles musicaux et tout ça a eu un effet bénéfique sur moi. Je me sens beaucoup mieux qu'avant et je pense que je peux apporter encore plus à la musique.
Aujourd'hui, j'ai 27 ans et je deviens un homme, je vois mon avenir sous un autre angle et donc ma relation avec Thy Majestie, ne peut qu’être différente. Maintenant nous travaillons tous ensemble pour un seul et même objectif qui est la musique sans y interférer nos vies privées. Tu sais, quand tu es jeune, tu peux facilement mélanger le tout et c'est une grave erreur! Maintenant, je distingue d'un côté Thy Majestie et de l'autre ma vie privée..Le boulot et la famille...il faut savoir faire la différence entre ce qui est important dans la vie (la famille, la copine, les amis) et ce qui l'est moins.
Bref, le style de Thy Majestie évolue également, de mon point de vue, ce style est différent et j'aime cette nouvelle direction que prend le groupe. Les nouveaux titres sonnent plus modernes. Pour ma part, je ne suis pas capable de toujours jouer la même musique d'où mon retour au sein du groupe. Aujourdhui, Thy Majestie est un groupe moderne et plus mature. Tu seras d'accord avec moi, sois en sûr.

Vas-tu participer à l'écriture de l'album ou tout a déjà été fait?

La structure des titres est déjà réalisée. J'écris juste les parties vocales.  De temps en temps je corrige certaines choses sur les harmonies, mais ce n'est pas si évident que ça en a l'air. Ces dernières années, j'ai progressé en tant que compositeur et musicien, il est donc pour moi plus évident de trouver la bonne mélodie pour ma voix.. Nous travaillons donc sur de biens meilleures bases de ce que nous faisions avant. Maintenant j'ai mon propre studio où j'y fais tout et ensuite j'envoie par  mail le résultat, si le groupe apprécie, je continue sur ma lancée...

Peux-tu nous en dire plus sur cet album?

Le nouvel album sera sur les chevaliers des templiers. Ça ne sera pas un album concepte, mais nous raconterons différentes histoires et différents moments. Nous n'avons encore aucune idée de la date de sortie, mais nous espérons rentrer en studio début 2007 et peut-être le sortir l'été suivant; mais pour le moment nous ne savons pas encore quel label va sortir, Scarlet Records semble être intéressé...

Sur ton site web nous pouvons lire: "Two great powerful Masterpieces are to be released in 2007 from Dario", en parlant de ton projet Violet Sun et du nouvel album de Thy Majestie. Doit-on en conclure qu'il n'y aura pas de nouvel album de Platens?

Le temps est un sérieux problème pour moi. J'aimerais commencer à enregistrer le second album de Platen's, mais ça ferait beaucoup trop pour moi.
Je travaille actuellement sur deux albums, comme tu l'as dit, Violet Sun et Thy Majestie. Je n'ai donc pas plus de temps à me consacrer, déjà que je ne dors pas beaucoup! Pour l'instant mon but est de finir ces deux albums en priorité. Après je pourrai mieux y réfléchir, la tête reposée.
Pour Platens, comme je l'ai écrit sur mon site, le second album sera sur un poète italien, Dante Aligheri, et plus particulièrement, sur son oeuvre Divine Comedy. J'aimerais réaliser cet album sous la forme d'un opéra métal (avec pas mal de guests) en 3 actes, l'enfer, le purgatoire et le paradis. J'ai composé près de trois heures de musique qui doivent être réorganisées en titres. Je ne sais pas encore quand tout cela sera réalisable mais sûrement pas en 2007.

Peux-tu nous en dire un peu plus sur projet Violet Sun?

[img left]http://www.heavylaw.com/wp-content/uploads/itws/121_1.jpg" />Violet Sun est bien différent de ce que l'on a l'habitude d'entendre sur Platens. Ce dernier est un hybride de AOR et de Hard Rock Mélodique alors que Violet Sun est beaucoup plus orienté vers le métal avec de bons riffs et solos, avec des touches de prog et un mélange de gothique et parties orchestrales. C'est un groupe de métal à voix féminine, un peu comme Lacuna Coil et Evanescence et c'est Alessandra Amata qui chante sur chacun des titres.
J'ai composé l'intégralité des compositions, incluant les lyrics et les mélodies. J'ai joué et enregistré tous les instruments sauf la batterie qui a été jouée par mon frère Alex Grillo (ndlr: également présent dans Platens). Pour les live, nous avons notre line up: je serai à la basse, Claudio Diprima (Thy Majestie) à la batterie, deux amis à la guitare et Alessandra garde son rôle, mais pour le claviériste, nous recherchons encore quelqu'un. Donc Violet Sun est plus qu'un simple projet studio mais un groupe à part entière. Nous croyons tellement à cette musique et à notre futur album. Nous espérons jouer sur scène dès la sortie de notre album dont la date serait prévue pour les premiers mois de 2007. Pour le moment, je mixe encore quelques titres.

Aurons-nous le droit à des samples très bientôt?

Bien sûr! Juste le temps pour moi de finir l'album et de créer notre site web.

Un Label vous a-t-il déjà contacté?

Oui! Mais il est encore trop tôt pour en parler....

Es-tu toujours étudiant?(Ce fût l'une de tes raisons de ton départ de Thy Majestie)

J'ai eu mon diplôme en sciences politiques l'année dernière. Je ne suis donc plus étudiant. J'ai étudié pendant 26 ans et c'est bien assez! Donc maintenant je me consacre à 100% à la musique, comme je te l'ai expliqué avant. Et c'est évidemment une des raisons de mon retour au sein de Thy Majestie.

Que penses-tu de l'album Jeanne D'Arc (ndlr: Dernier album de Thy Majestie)

C'est un bon album avec une bonne production. Mais le point faible de cet album sont les lignes de chants...ce n'est en aucun cas la faute de Giulio, car il chante avec passion et à sa propre personnalité, mais on sent derrière tout ça que le groupe a eu une période difficile. Mais avec quelques ajouts, l'album aurait pu être une référence, mais ce n'est pas si simple de remplacer Dario Grillo :)

Quels sont donc les points à améliorer?

Les mélodies et les solos de guitare.

Quels ont été les points qui  ont été amélioré depuis Hastings 1006?

La production, le son de la guitare, les parties orechestrales et les perfomances de chacun.

Maintenant que tu es de retour dans Thy Majestie, que tu as deux projets à toi, souhaiterais-tu avoir quelque chose de plus?

Non, pour moi je suis au summum. Je ne suis qu'une personne qui est  contente d'avoir eu tout ça. J'aimerais tout de même avoir un peu plus de temps pour moi, mais je remercie Dieu tous les jours de m'avoir donné tout ça. Il suffit juste d’être positif pour voir ses problèmes se résoudre le plus simplement.

Dario Grillo: I’m fine, thanks. Maybe the only serious problem are my nasal hairs. I often cut them but they seem to grow faster than the normal. 

members of your family, or your dog? :D)

After some silent days he wrote me to pretend my come back in the band as ransom. My hesitation could have been a disaster so at last I should renounce to my freedom for the glory of my cock. It’s an hard truth in my hard life   
Jokes apart, the real reason is that it was the right time to return. I left 3 years ago for two reasons : because I was tired of that kind of music and for some tensions between me and the band....Sometime too much time spent  together can be the cause of a breaking relationship.  I needed to stop my mind and  look around me.... To play with other musicians, to change city, to frequent different persons, to visit other places. So I changed the place of my residence towards Catania (a town in the est coast of Sicily...enough distant from my native Palermo) . I decided to start again with my life, with another music....PLATENS has been the mirror of these wishes.  In these long years I worked in a professional recording studio of Catania. I learnt a lot of interesting things. I improved myself as musician and person. I knew different musical styles and all these influences had a positive influence on me. I feel still alive more than before and I can give much to the music. Today everything is different in my life. Now I’m 27 years old and , being a man, I see the future under another prospective. Even my relation with Thy Majestie is different. Now our main prerogative is only the music and we work for a common objective without  mix our private lives. We cross separete ways out of the music. When you’re young you can confuse the internal problems with your profession and  job and it’s  a great mistake ! My private life is separete from my work with Thy Majestie and from the other  musical projects. It’s my job but not my total life.  I try to give the best I can for this passion but there are other things beyond the music :my spirituality , my girl ,  family,  friends,  home. These are my life’s reasons....It’s important to separate the things.
Anyway even the musical style of Thy Majestie is different now as their behaviour for my person and my soloist career. They evolved their musical style with the years. The new songs sound modern and I like this new direction. I’ m not able to play always  the same music for  years and probably this is  another cause of my come back. Today Thy Majestie is a modern band and our music is more mature. You’ll agree with me. I’m sure

Are you going to participate to the writting session of the new album of Thy majestie or all is already done?

The structure of the songs is already done. I’m just writing the vocal lines. Sometimes I correct some chords and harmonies but it’s an easy thing for me. In these years I increased my talent as songwriter and musician. It’s a simple thing to find the right melody for my voice. So we’re working in a better way in spite of our previous albums. I’ve got my home studio and I do everything here. Then I send all the recording gigs through e-mail to the rest of the band. If they like  I go on with my work.

Can you tell me more about this new album? (Album concept, release date, recording session etc..)

The new album will tell about Templars Knights. It won't be a concept album like the others. We will tell different stories and different moments which will have Templars as protagonist.
We don't know at the moment the release date but we hope to join the recording studio for the early 2007.
Hopefully the new album could be released at the end of the summer 2007.  But at the moment we don't know which label will release it. Scarlet seemed interested ...but we don't know.

On your website, we can read that "Two great powerful Masterpieces are to be released in 2007 from Dario" including TM and Violent Sun, so we can conclude that there will be no new album of Platens the next year?Any Ideas for the
next album of Platens?

The serious problem for me is the time. I ‘d like to begin the recording sessions for the PLATENS’ second album  but it’s too much for me. Today I’m working on two albums : the debut of VIOLET SUN and the fourth THY MAJESTIE’s release. I’ve got no more time in my day to think about other music. Some nights I’m so tired to not have normal sleep. My only aim is to finish these two albums. Then I’ll be able to decide for my future. I need to relax my mind before the beginning of another musical adventure.
As I wrote on my website the next release of PLATENS will deal with the « DIVINE COMEDY » of Dante Aligheri (the most important italian poet). I’d like to realize a great Metal opera with a lot of guests divided in three acts (like the Dante’s poem) : Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise. I composed almost 3 hours of music but all this material has to be organized in songs. It will be a titanic and hard work. I don’t know when it will be possible to realize it. Surely not this year.

Can you talk about Violet Sun? What is this new project? Do you sing or perform to an instrument?

While Violet  Sun is more metal oriented with great guitar riffs and solos , progressive influences , gothic atmosphere and orchestral parts. Besides Alessandra Amata sings over the songs. It’s a female metal band like lacuna Coil or Evanescence for example. I composed all the songs,  lyrics and melodies. I played and recorded all the instruments in my studio except the voice (performed by Alessandra Amata)  and the drum (played by my great brother Alex Grillo). About the live shows the band is yet complete : I will play the Bass (not guitar),  Claudio Diprima (Thy Majestie) will crash  the drum instead of my brother,  two other friends the guitars and Alessandra keep her rule.We’re searching just for a keyboard player and the Line up is complete ! At the end is an effective band. I believe so much in our music and in this album. We hope to play on stage after the release of the album. I’m still mixing some  songs and If I don’t wrong the debut should be released in the first months of 2007.

A label is already interested about VS?

Yes....but it’s still soon to post official news about it.

Are you still student? (if yes, it was one of reason of your departure of TM ...so now how do you do to work in several projects?)

I took a degree in political sciences the last year. I’m not student anymore. I studied for 26 long years in my life.....too much for me !!  So in this period I dedicate all my time to the music as I told you before. This is another  reason of my comeback with THY MAJESTIE.

What do you think about the album Jeanne D'Arc?

A great album with great production. The problem is not Giulio (the singer). He sings with passion and personality. The real weakness for me are the vocal lines. The album needed more attention to the vocal melodies. It’s just my opinion. It could have been a great masterpiece with just some few repairs and additions. But at the end I can understand the hard period that the guys have faced in these last years. It’s not easy to replace Dario Grillo 

What are the points of the album to improve?

The melodies and guitar solos.

What are the points of the album which have been improved since Hastings 1066?

The production , the guitar sound, the orchestral parts and the individual performance of all the members.

So now...you are in Thy majestie, you perform into two another projects...do you want somehting more?

No......for me is the top ! I’m a simple person and I’m really happy for all I’ve got. I’d like to have more spare time for myself  but at the end I thank God just for everyday of my life he gives me. It’s an hard time to live but we’ve to be always positive persons....just in this way we can face the problems in the right way.
